Theme: Generation and Transmission of Renewable Energy In most of the world, the generation of power through renewable energy is an accepted fact. However, linking this new form of power to the existing grid system presents a challenge. The technical issues surrounding the integration of sustainable energy systems into the current distribution network depends on the scale of such renewable technology as well as storage methods. The prospect for sustainable communities that use renewable energy depends on research and innovative management to connect low, medium and high voltage networks to energy usage by consumers in urban and rural areas. These innovations include power and financial management, micro energy grid developments and modernization of distributed energy networks. Different storage technologies for stationery and mobile uses of power are needed to meet the demands of sustainable energy systems by dispatching such power in a controllable manner. The Special Issue of the ‘International Journal of Smart Grid and Clean Energy’, (ISSN: 2315-4462 print, 2373-3594 online), DOI: 10.12720/sgce, is going to cover selected high-quality (peer reviewed) papers from the 2019 International Conference on Environment Sciences and Renewable Energy (ESRE 2019), which will be held on May 27-29, 2019 in Bali, Indonesia. The ESRE 2019 is going to provide a forum for presenting and publishing high quality technical articles with recent developments in Environment Sciences and Renewable Energy. Key topics include the application of the utilization of the smart grid to all aspects of renewable resources, energy conservation for both governmental and private users, management of the utilization of new sources of energy in urban and rural areas, use of sustainable energy in transportation systems and design, monitoring and impact of renewable energy systems. This issue will highlight original research that concerns such issues as the design, operation, control or implementation of sustainable energy systems and smart grid infrastructure, clean and renewable energy, power engineering and sustainable transportation systems. Emphasis will be placed on those issues of SGSES that concern the technologies and methods that deal with any of these aspects of smart grids and sustainable energy: demonstrating experimental analysis and design; control engineering; protection systems; modelling and simulation; computational intelligence; optimization algorithms; and data analysis.
